We went to Goodwill to pick up a radio I won online, so of course a look at the shelves was in order.

Bald Adler.  I was tempted to get it for the spring I need for my special, but didn't see a price.

they have an area set aside for nicer things.  This was forty bucks in there.

Then we got on the bikes, rode around downtown and looked for food outside the stadium where the football fans were assembling.  Protestors were blocking the hot dogs we wanted to price.

I always like to have a look here, they have a big shelf of machines.  You have to ask for help and I don't want to get their hopes up.

  In this store I also found some slide rules priced too high and a Presto Blair book on animation for my niece that was surprisingly affordable.

Then we went home and I finished making my first batch of holiday chocolates

Appleton thrift

 At the third place, The bone threw me a bone.

We had passed a used bookstore on the way to the last thrift, and something made me ask to stop there on the way back.  We walk in and find this:

Pretty interesting guy.  This is the owner of  Shenandoah Books in Appleton, WI.  He's operating this Underwood 5 writing his newsletter.  He has 9 years left on his 50-year plan to bring the U.S. before the World Court for its treatment of native Americans.  That's a Gestetner blank in the machine, but he uses it on an A.B. Dick Mimeograph.  He also said he has a Hermes 3000 at home.

catching up

Today I'm testing the Alphasmart 3000, having replaced the internal button battery, which I never did last year.  I'm also testing the cable I have as past cables have been troublesome.

I just got back from Dallas, where I took the Rocket inside my rollaboard suitcase.  I was prepared to dig it out but neither security staff asked me to.
As you can see, I have an alignment issue I didn't have before.  Too much jostling?
Today I went to an Arts event called Metal Urge, where I made myself some some Nano Rhinos which I hope will bring me luck.  Here's the photo set.

This picture is the presser for the "charm"  I made.  They didn't have a rhino punch so I had to cut one freehand with scissors.

Rhino mold at far right.  The medium is sand held together with a gluelike plstic resin.  You just scrape away whatever doesn't look like a negative image of what you want to end up with.  Like stamp carving but with a third dimension.

I missed the pouring of my own, but it sure is fun to watch.
