sidline one SM-8

On Friday I found a Jack Chick tract.  It was, sources say, their most popular one.  I'm not going to post it here but I hadn't known those things were still around until I looked them up.  I learned of them in about the 1980's.  I never saw them growing up Catholic with an atheist father.  Still kinda creepy to me.

not really worth the wait

A disjointed (thrice-interrupted) typecast on team typewriter selections.  To add interest I will paste the OCR text after.

First the scanner software:

This is machine two for NaNoWriMo, the 44. I have two in pica,
this being the newer one that I will probably keep. I feel I will
need a typewriter at work in case I can't bring one, but can't
decide between a large ur small. This feels pretty good to use,
and prints beautifully with the new ribbon.but it may need to stay
home in ready attitude. I had toyed with the idea of using only
elite machines but this one is so nice to use I tossed that idea.
Plus I started to like the idea 16 of using a lot Gf Olivetti
products, and the 319 (clone of the lettera 92) is also pica.
However, there are Sm 3's, a 7 and an 8 in elite. plus a couple
robot fonts will get work. So there you go. I'll try to keep it
under 10 machines this E year.
It's funny I'm using this one when a 44 appearSE to be in the quiz
today.
The next day I finally complete this typecast. or not, since it's
time for a walk.
OM now. another three-day typecast. Had to accompany mom to
the Dr. She has a way forward new and treatment will complete
by the holidays, unless another is proposed to follow. Wait
and see.
I'm getting such a kick Qut of No Plot-No Problem! and ~ope to
finish it in time to lend to my writing/gaming buddy. Last
year we just wvote on game nights, giving us about 4 good k
hours to lay down words.

So this is the Underwood
92. It's a midsize, and
more space for carrying.

3L9, or as I like to ~all it,
will spell the 22 when I have
I like the feel of it.

the Lettera
a little

So that takes aare of Southern Europe.
I'll typecast on the others as they make the cut.

now the free online ocr

winner:  online, just like last year.

Typecast is still on the platen

Since I'm never home, it seems, i'll post by phone today. Here are some things I've seen this week.
These are all from rePC in a five-minute sweep on my way to pick up my Lettera case.

too heavy to move so I don't know what model this is.  They had three selectrics across the aisle.

They must have had a lot of interest in this and got tired of answering.

extreme makeover and the influence of the typosphere

First, Signorina Elettra is getting the full treatment for November.  When purchased, a new ribbon and a nut stolen from a Studio 21.  Then last week a new drawband and an adjustment that corrected the skipping.  This week, her outerwear is being repaired.  I took her on the train to see if the typing was loud or disruptive (answer: no), and a coworker looked at the broken zipper and told me about a place nearby that repairs luggage.
It was an interesting experience - they said they could not likely replace the zipper because of the internal construction that makes it rigid enough to support a typewriter, but they could easily repair the zipper up to the gap, where they'll install stops.  When I get it back I'll report on the final cost and show workmanship.

In other news, based primarily on the low shipping cost, I put in a bid on an old typewriter on shopgoodwill.com today and only a few hours later it is outside my price range, a fact I attribute to this writeup of Richard's.  Is that technically typosphere influence?

Monday short note

This is the cat who broke my camera.  He got tangled in the lanyard and it "chased" him up the stairs.

Desert Botanical Garden

The name Elettra has the added advantage of being an anagram of Lettera.  The Signorina in the novels is a secretary for the police whose past is a mystery but who has connections in banking and is able to dig up useful info for the investigations. Guido Brunetti is smart enough not to ask where it comes from or how she does it.

This is where I tapped out the following:

KITTY!!

Typecast coming soon

I brought Signorina Elettra into the garden and did some typing.

This is becoming one of my better business trips

Having never been to the Phoenix area before I'm getting quite the experience out of it.  I'm out of my comfort zone in many ways but for short durations that is pleasantly stimulating.  The heat has been bearable between a/c islands, I've managed to find my way around thanks to android, the sun is not as blinding as expected - a major surprise. Today I got to see a dust storm obscure the mountains. Ick, but cool to see from inside just the same.
Tonight I dine with an old meatspace friend (we met in jr high), Tomorrow I test the 22 (I expect to be satisfied enough to retake possession and use it) and meet up with Rev and Tori, then Thursday I have tentative plans to make another visit to Mesa to see the ham radio station.  Friday I leave on the redeye, leaving me perhaps enough time to see a museum or something?  I will ask my friend.

Got a little art today

In case you can't read that small type, I have attempted to enlarge it below

I love using that machine but it's "blind" - the type is so small it can seldom be seen, and then only with intense light.  So I make a lot of amusing typos.

Before the show we looked at the "Art of the Book" exhibit at Collins Library.  It was small but impressive.
I thought, "This is the future of print media."  What I mean of course is that the fine book niche should do well IF there is enough confidence in the archival durability of the materials and craftsmanship.

All that said, I want to be a proofreader/editor.  I seem to have a blind spot for my own dreck, but my writing buddy was quite impressed with all the suggestions I made for his novel, and having priced the service in a writing group he said my feedback is comparable to the samples he's seen from the pro, and thinks I should look into it.  To that end, I'd love to audition with the typosphere writers.  I'll tell you what I see, you tell me if that's useful and how it compares with other editors' feedback.  Any takers?
