pics

I didn't get photos taken of the Hermes or the slide rule so I'm showing those now.
The Hermes you read about before.  Inside the lid, however, I found the book and two brushes!  I've seldom seen the brushes.

So here's the machine inside:

The slide rule is a puzzle.  I think the cursor is off an old K&E 4053 but the rule doesn't match up in several ways.  I'm still researching it.

type-in recap

I didn't get pictures this time, darnit.  I'll have to steal pictures from the others.  I had a great time though.

type-in report coming tomorrow

I had a very full day scheduled after the type-in and it's still going on, so my typecast will appear Sunday.  I've enjoyed the ones I've had time to glance at between things.
Awesome Hermes from strikethru, no matter what she says about it. thanks again, and I hope you like the classic 12.

My calling?

I never hear about this until it's too late to enter.  They really should have a direct link from the NaNoWriMo website.  I'm sure I had something at least as bad in my novel.

Seriously though, I doubt I could be this entertaining.  This stuff takes real talent.

sightings

I thought I was seeing an Empress but not quite.  I thought it had a vaguely electric look about it and it did.

Turns out it's an "Electress"  They have it marked at $50, but everything is 25% off right now so hurry down to RampArt on Tacoma's Antique Row!

If you want something older they still have the AZERTY Royal 10 for $250 ( I suppose that's on sale too), or this at a LCSmith at a neighboring shop:

the goodwill outlet

I get a lot of my typers lately from the place I have called the "pound," and now that I've replaced my camera phone (lost on new year's eve), I'm able to take pics again out where I see them.
Brace yourself -  this ain't no Geneva market!

Over to the left you see the wall of the bin.  It's about 6 feet by 3 and there are 3 in a row, and several rows.  This Sears electric was a surprise, it looked like a manual machine with a black clamshell top, but there is a socket in the back for a 3-prong plug (like 90's pc's all had).
Here is a view of the rear label, I suspect it's a Brother product.

In the next bin over was another surprise in the riot of colors.  I found the lid first.  See if you can spot all three pieces.  It'll be easier for you as I have pre-arranged them for you, and the ribbon cover I had found upside down after some digging.  This is fairly typical of how I find them.  Now you see why I call them "rescue dogs."

It's a J2.  I rather liked the J4 I sent my nephew last Christmas, I expect this is pretty much the same.  We'll see. I won't have time to look at it until probably Sunday.

typewriter shopping

I hit a few shops today and found ALL electric machines.  Two of them were pretty interesting and unused-looking.  I didn't buy them because, as we know, that way lies madness, but I'll try to recall some points of interest.
There was a"Super Correct" if I'm recalling that accurately.  Typical 60's SCM but with black accents.  It was loaded with a regular red/black ribbon so I don't know where "correct" came in unless it was a separate mechanism or had the "wrong" ribbon loaded.
The 2nd was a Sears SCM (why are they following me?) with the same SCM body but a strange "power ribbon" that looked like a regular ribbon in weird enclosed spools.  I suspect the are motor-driven somehow.  That one had the book I really should have checked it.  The "Power Ribbon" switch had four colors around it - red, black, blue and green.  No idea how that works.
Other than those there were a few 80's ones and a lot of wedges.
online, I found this Underwood and I can't date it or decide if I want to bid on it:

So, if anyone recognizes that model I'd be grateful for any info.

my proof came in the mail

tenino

We rode from Tenino Quarry to the Monarch Scupture Park and back - 18 miles total.  It was not all that hard even with the Road Rash I earned yesterday (left forearm - why do I always fall to my left?).  After the ride we met up with Little Flower Petals for a park type-in.  See what you miss when you don't follow the comments?
In another note, I wish I'd made the ibm box a prize for completing my crossword puzzle.  I may have to just make up another.  bwa-ha-ha.

There are several Letterboxes at the Monarch.  I had to draw because I didn't bring my stamp

Olympia SM9

I have one other SM9 and it has the same perfumey smell.  Is it the case materials or what?
