WHERE IS YOUR BLOG NOW?!

I haven't posted here for a long time, and about eighty percent of the reason for that is the lack of a scanner that works with Windows from 7 to 10.  But the rest is laziness and some distractions.
The latest distraction is definitely cutting into my lazy time.  I've been sick.  So I'm blogging elsewhere for a few weeks (or months, possibly).

The good news is that carcinoids in the lungs are pretty straightforward to treat, with a high success rate.  In other places, they are more problematic, for example as Steve Jobs had in the pancreas.

So wish me luck and I'll get a scanner as soon as they'll allow me to lift one.

cleaner and coming to life

See how nicely those have been preserved?  only the two on the right end show much grime. Action is still a bit stiff but with some oil drops here and there and just typing on it, that is improving.

SN is 1A-1918923-12.  it looks very similar to the 1941 gallery, but presumably they didn't change much during the war.  I'm surprised there are SN's for the war years at all, frankly, but I guess donations didn't cover every need.
I just need to get a new ribbon in here and use it some more.


In other news, I was outbid on an Olivetti Lettera 36 electric portable.  I only tried for it because of the floating keyboard as seen on the Praxis 48.

New acquisition

I'm not just selling off, I'm adding a few for actual use.  This is one that was just below the sg1 on my list, and harder to find in my price range.

Apparently it went for $199 in 2016 and is now out of stock.  It seems to have come from/been connected with this site and there appear to be a number of posts complaining about the quality of the machine (jams and alignment mostly).

I've been pretty busy, including a trip to Bristol, RI for a wedding by way of Boston.  Just before leaving, I brought home this:

It seems to work fine, except it has the Royal margin weakness.  That will be the first thing I look up in Ted's book!

So when I got a phone call from Tacoma Thrift and Consignment that the Studio 44 and Classic 12 had sold and she had a check for me, I decided to take her the HH, which bugged me because of that heel-of-the-hand shift thing, and another Classic 12 - this one in script. The young shopkeeper, who had been quite enthusiastic about selling typewriters, really liked this one, as can be seen by her facebook post:

Someone asked how much and she said it had already sold.  I hope she charged plenty.  I may suggest she take bids on the next script typer.  And there will be another...

selling off

I'm starting another round of thinning the collection.  I had a coincidence to kick things off.
I called on a new consignment shop and the proprietor said she'd been asked for them.  The day after I selected four for her shelf, I get a text from my niece - she has a friend in the market for a typewriter.  So in the back-and-forth i got out of him that he wants to use if for scripts.  So that means I need to present working machines with tabs.  Here are the candidates.

6lt2-154713  This is the earliest Classic 12 I ever found. I never use it though, and I don't want to have it just to have it.

488788  this will be priced high.  It's in great shape.

I'll let him try this but it's still balky.  The carriage grinds, for one thing.

This one is also excellent, and has the cleaning kit too.  I just don't use it much.

In related news, I went to the bins and found a typing manual.

There's my FP, and an underwood I sold over a year ago.

The Remington has a body similar to my big noiseless with the tiny typeface, and that looks like my 88.

Coffee time!

So this stuff served hot is good and sweet but all the videos say it's often poured into a glass of ice, and then it's quite like Thai iced coffee (which they never mention).  Southeast Asia is pretty hot so iced drinks would seem to be the thing.  It's been near freezing here so screw that for now.


One more thing - It was good to see a post from Adwoa!  I hope she knows how much she's been missed.

Clover Club Cocktail

I'm going to have a busy day tomorrow so I'm doing a quick post without the typewriter.  This being the drinking holiday, I'll mention a little about the Mr. Boston guide.  The drink above was originally going to be a Pink Lady (also good) but I had lemon on hand and decided to try this.  It was good!
I've also had a number of Manhattans, and now what I call a "Toronto" - being a Manhattan made with cheaper Canadian whiskey.
I've also been going through the hot toddy section.  Hot Buttered Rum has been added to lately, probably to raise the price they can charge.
Biggest surprise - Gin Milk Punch.

Interesting surprise on shopgoodwill today.  Shipping to me is $75, so I'm out.  But I hope a friend reading this gets it!

Tinkertopia can be found here.  I think I paid about $2.50 for a big roll that's 11" wide, so I am slicing it into 8.5" strips since the carriage isn't that wide.

I love the look of the Noiseless portable.

The large shaker on the right I recall from my childhood - never in use, always in some cabinet or other.  It may have been a wedding gift in the 1950's.  The small one at left was found at a yard sale for a buck, and is just my size.  I'm considering the fad of in-flight cocktail making for my next trip.  But that cap on top leaks, I may try a rubber ring of some kind.  Above it is the 1946 Old Mr. Boston Bartender's Guide from shopgoodwill.
